Virginia International Raceway (VIR) first opened in August 1957, quickly earning a place in American motorsports history as one of the country’s earliest permanent road racing circuits. After closing in 1974 and sitting dormant for decades, VIR was dramatically reborn in 2000 when new ownership restored the original circuit layout and transformed the property into America’s first true “motorsport resort.” The modern VIR preserves its historic track while adding new world‑class facilities that have solidified its status as one of the nation’s premier and most storied racecourses.
